Movie of the Week: Dog Soldiers

Dog Soldiers is one of the best werewolf movies ever made in my opinion. There was alot of buzz on the internet about this movie when it was released, but it didn't garnish any big time reviews like all the crappy big budget films that we get swamped with. Plain and simple, it's a werewolf story, no lovey dovey romance hidden inside a horror movie, just werewolves killing people. My kind of movie! The plot follows a group of soldiers who are supposed to be on practice maneuvers, when one group of soldiers gets slaughtered. The second group winds up locked in an old house in the woods with a mysterious lady, and oh yeah, the place is werewolves. After some plot twists and turns, the action gets hairy as the werewolves get busy. The make-up FX are pretty good despite the low budget and the settings have atmosphere. The acting is good, albeit, the sound isn't the greatest on the disc so sometimes the dialogue gets muddied, the accents take a while to get used to as well, but after a few minutes you can understand it. Simply said, the best werewolf movie along with the Ginger Snaps trilogy. There's a sequel due for this film soon and I am anxiously awaiting it! ****1/2 out of *****.
